What’s your process for writing music in a new style?

I dabble in new genres from time to time. I typically need to write a song or two before I feel confident in my writing… or… I learn I cannot write in that style (the uncomfortable truth). The first couple of songs are usually throwaways. I keep the songs and occasionally post them, like Vibomatic, but the norm for me is to keep them private. IMO, never delete your songs. No matter how bad. Each song is a learning lesson and a fantastic way to stay humble. Let’s be honest, guitarists can… well… we can amass a large ego if we’re not careful, lol… You know it’s true!
I like Vibomatic, but it’s not very dynamic. It’s a “vibe”, hence the name. I have a lot of songs like Vibomatic. Musically sound, but IMO, not very interesting. Might be good for an EP of background music? Donno.
I’d love to hear your process. Please post your comment on the YouTube song page. As always, thanks so much for listening.
